Definition
Patriotism is loyalty to one's nation. Civil Religion affirms a purpose and meaning for the national experience.

Definition
Zwingli, a Christian humanist, was with the renaissance movement to retrogress back to the word of God, and break away from church tradition. Calvin's idea of predestination supported the ultimate sovereignty of God, which disclaimed any power one man claimed over the other. Anabaptists, after being persecuted by the church and the state for re-baptizing adults, brought about a need for the separation of church and state.

Definition
Tyndale believed that England's covenant with God was conditional, and was in jeopardy because people were deserting the church and God's commandments.

Definition
The early Puritans wanted to reform the church of England from within. They tried to assure this by becoming professors in important colleges and teaching their personal doctrine, using propaganda and the press to advertise their ideas, and were appointed to pulpits to present their beliefs.

Definition
They gave up on trying to reform the church of England. But after persecution from King James, they left for freedom of Religion, and landed on Plymouth.

Definition
The Puritans traded, conversed, and even attempted conversion among the natives, but saw the Good works as God working in his providence, and blessing them through the Pagan Indians.
