In order for Paramesvara to maintain patrimony from local rivals he cemented this relationship with the Chinese with a visit to Beijing. As a result of Zhenghe's visit, Malacca's leader also converted to Islam in order to enhance their ability to participate in the trade that passed through the strait between Malaya and Sumatra, which in turn allowed Malacca to become a leading economic power. |
