Definition
  • An establishment that illegally 

sells alcoholic beverages

• Speakeasies were numerous and 

popular during Prohibition. 

• Even though police and agents 

of the Bureau of Prohibition would often raid 

them and arrest their owners 

and patrons, they were so profitable that they continued to flourish.

traditional mold of how women were to dress and act in
public
• They were easily recognizable by wearing knee length
skits (considered short!), wearing their hair in a bob,
listening to jazz, wearing makeup, and driving
automobilesD
