Act of Appeals (1533)
Definition
The act, drafted by Thomas Cromwell on behalf of King Henry VIII of England, forbade all appeals to the Pope in Rome on religious or other matters, making the King the final legal authority in all such matters in England, Wales, and other English possessions. This was achieved by claiming that England was an Empire and the English crown was an Imperial Crown — Henry's historians claimed that they could trace the linage back to Brutus and the fall of Troy.

Act of 6 articles

The first article expressed the doctrine of transubstantiation. Those denying this were to be burnt. If the other five articles were impeached the penalties were, for the first offence, confiscation of property, for the second, execution as a felon. The five articles declared (2) that communion in both kinds was unnecessary; (3) that priests ought not to marry; (4) that the vows of chastity ought to be observed in both sexes; (5) that private masses were allowable; (6) that auricular confession was necessary. This sanguinary Act, called by the Protestants, "the whip with six strings, continued in force for the rest of Henry's reign.

Acts of Uniformity (1549,52,59)
Definition

49 - established The Book of Common Prayer (The Book of the Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the Church after the use of the Church of England) as the sole legal form of worship in England. Before 1549, the churches of England continued to use a slightly altered version of theLatin-language Missal.

52 - one of the many steps taken by Edward and his councillors to make England a more Protestant country. It replaced the Book of Common Prayer authorised by the Act of Uniformity 1549 with a revised and more protestant Book of Common Prayer.

59 - set the order of prayer to be used in the English Book of Common Prayer. Every man had to go to church once a week or be fined 12 pence (equivalent to just over £11 in 2007 [2]), a considerable sum for the poor. With this act Elizabeth I made it a legal obligation to go to church every Sunday. The 'Act of Uniformity' reinforced the Book of Common Prayer. After passage, fourteen bishops were dismissed from their sees, and all the other sees, except Llandaff, were at the time vacant
