Describe the hemorrhagic conditions of early pregnancy including spontaneous abortion, ectopic pregnancy, and gestational trophoblastic disease |
|
Definition
sponateous abortion is when the mother miscarries the fetus due to a congenital or maternal abnormality.
ectopic pregnancy is when the ovum implants in the fallopian tube. This results in an incompetent pregnancy that is usually spontaneous abortion. If the body doesn't abort the fetus, then sx must be done to remove the ovum to prevent further complications and infection.
gestational trophoblastic disease-this disease causes abnormal growth. The placenta develops, but the fetus doesn't. This creates hydatidiform moles. This can lead to a very rare, but serious cancer called choriocarcinoma. |
