Definition
At 1 and 5 minutes after delivery. A hands-on examination. Scores given of 0-2. Do NOT wait until 1 minute Apgar is assigned to begin resuscitation of compromised neonate.
7-10=good
4-6=needs moderate resuscitative efforts
0-3= severe need for resuscitation |

Color= Dusky/cyanotic=0, Acrocyanotic=1, Totally pink=2 |

Adverse reactions- Red,puffy eyes, staining of skin if contact occurs
Nursing implications- May not kill other organisms such as Chlamydia, 2gtts in lower congunctival sac making sure drops spread over entire eye, DO NOT irrigate eyes following instillation |
