Acyclovir (Zovirax) is usally the cheapest regimen. Valcyclovir (Valtrex) is a prodrug of acyclovir that results in higher concentrations than with oral acyclovir. If resistant to acyclovir, patient will obviously be resistant to valacyclovir. Famiciclovir (Famvir) is a prodrug of penciclovir. Strains resistant to acyclovir are generally resistant to famciclovir. |
