Intimacy vs Isolation

* Physical and mental strength are at peak.

* Have many adolescent traits, but resemble mature adults

*Assert themselves-  a force to be reckoned with

*May not fully realize their ability to make good decisions

*May lack good judgement in many situations

* Injuries--.leading cause of death MVAs alcholol associated with most. eg(gun,water and sports)

*Relationships--.Sexual experimentation, unwanted pregnancies, STD's, Gay/Lesbian

*Drug/alcohol abuse-->major threats prolonged use can lead to death

*Diet/exercise- lower calories  require less now (fast food, busy lifestyles)

Situational Stressors

* Choices re: lifestyle, occupation, relationships

*marriage/divorce, parenthood, death of a parent, can bring on physical health problems

*Ineffective coping mechanisms--> substance spousal and child abuses can result.

*lower nutrition, rest and risk taking behaviors

*raise # of men and women remaining single
