1250 b.c. * A legend that some historians believe is true. *Homer wrote about it in The Iliad. *Started because Helen, the wife of Sparta's King Menalaus, was kidnapped by Paris, the prince of Troy. *The Greek city-states joined together to fight the Trojans. *The war lasted 10 years. *The Greeks won the war by tricking the Trojans with a huge wooden horse. The Trojans thought it was a gift for them and brought it into the city, but hidden inside were Greek soldiers that set fire to the city. |

750 b.c. - 508 b.c. *Greeks from Crete and surrounding islands migrated to the mainland because the islands became to crowded and people were running out of food. *Ancient Greece was made of city-states, each with its own complete government. *"Demokratia" was the first form of democracy. *"Democratia" was started by Cleisthenes in 508 b.c. *"Demokratia" governments had two parts: 1) a Council of 500 men elected by the people to write laws and 2) an Assemby of all citizens that voted on the laws that the Council wrote.
