Definition
Causative agent: Leptospira interrogans
L. interrogans enter the body through the mucous membranes and are excreted in urine.
Leptospirosis is a disease that is divided into two phases.
Septicemic Phase: represents pain and lack of inflammatory response
Immune Phase: causes injury to the cells of tiny blood vessels

Bacterial Vaginosis
Definition
Causative agent: Cause or causes unknown, although Gardnerella vaginalis is often present
Bacterial vaginosis shows an increase in the number of slough vagina cells, these cells are called "clue cells".
Bacterial vaginosis represents a pungent "fishy" odor that is more distressing than vaginal discharge. The stong odor is due to the metabolic products produced by the vaginal anaerobes.

Staphylococcal Toxi Shock
Definition
Causative agent: Staphylococcus aureus
S. aureus is a gram positive cocci that produces one or more exotoxins.
The use of tampons increases the risk of Toxic Shock, and Staphylococcus Toxic Shock shows a decrease in blood pressure.

Definition
Causative agent: Neisseria gonorrhoeae
N. gonorrhoeae is a gram negative bacteria that can only infect humans.
Gonorrhea is the most prevalent STD and is the second highest reportable disease in the U.S (only after Chlamydia).
Women are most likely to be asymptomatic carriers or Gonorrhea.
