Term
Biceps Brachii
Definition
Origin:long head- supraglenoid tubercle of scapula. Short head- coracoid process of scapula.
Insertion: Radial tuberosity and bicital aponeurosis to fascia of forearm.
Action: Flexes and supinates forearm at elbow.
Nerve Innervation- Musculocutaneous
Term
Brachialis
Definition
Origin: Anterior, distal half of humerus
Insertion: Coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna.
Action: Flexes forearm at elbow.
Nerve Innervation: Musculocutaneous nerve
Term
Brachioradialis
Definition
Origin: lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus.
Insertion: Styloid process of radius
Action: Flexes forearm at elbow
Nerve Innervation: Radial nerve.
Term
Pronator Teres
Definition
Origin: Humoral head- medial epicondyle of humerus and distal supracondylar ridge. Ulnar head- medial side of coronoid process of ulna.
Insertion: Middle of lateral surface of radius
Action: Pronates and flexes forearm at elbow.
Nerve Innervation: Medial nerve
Term
Triceps Brachii-Long head
Definition
Origin: Infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Insertion: Posterior olecranon process of ulna
Action: Extends the forearm at elbow.(it also extends the arm at the shoulder.)
Nerve Innervation: Radial Nerve
Term
Triceps Brachii-Medial Head
Definition
Origin: Inferior 2/3 of posterior humerus
Insertion: Posterior olecranon process of ulna
Action: Extends the forearm at elbow
Nerve Innervation: Radial Nerve
Term
Tricep Brachii- Lateral head
Definition
Origin: Proximal portion of posterior humerus, superior to radial groove.
Insertion: Posterior olecranon process of ulna.
Actions: Extends the forearm at elbow
Nerve innervation: Radial nerve.
Term
Anconeus
Definition
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of humerus.
Insertion: Posterior olecranon process of ulna.
Action: Extends the forearm at elbow
Nerve innervation: Radial nerve.
Term
Supinator
Definition
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of the humerus, radial collateral and annular ligaments, and supinator crest of the ulna.
Insertion: lateral surface of the proximal radius
Action: supinates forearm
Nerve Innervation: radial nerve
Term
Pronator Quadratus
Definition
Origin: anterior surface of the distal ulna
Insertion: anterior surface of the distal radius
Action: pronates forearm.
Nerve Innervation: median nerve
