Major contraindications: active GI diseases; used with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, pre-existing coagulopathy, cardiac impairment, and age > 60 years.

 

Nursing alert: All NSAIDS, have increased risk of inducing MI or stroke.  The risk escalates the longer the duration of therapy.  Monitor patients for signs of MI and stroke.

Major contraindications: hepatic disease, viral hepatitis, and alcoholism

 

Nursing alert:  acetaminophen overdose is potentially  fatal.  The patient must receive treatment in an acute care facility.  Anticipate the use of acetylcysteine as an antidote.
