(1028-221 B.C.E.) They were not chinese, and were originally classed as barbarians when they conquered Shang China. However they quickly adopted Chinese culture. Brought the 7 day week to China. In 771 the empire was sacked by barbarians who killed the emperor. The last few years of this dynasty (403-221) were knows as the "Period of the Warring States" The dynasty was brought to an end in 221 when Shih Huang Ti declared himself Son of Heaven. |

Declared himself Son of Heaven.Prince of Ch'in. He used violent methods to enforce his power thus leading to violent outbreaks with after his death in 210 B.C.E. The revolts lasted until the death of his son in 206 B.C.E. |

A sage from a noble family who lived from 551-470 B.C.E. Native of the state of Lu. Over time he gained a group of admiring disciples who recorded his sayings in a book about him called the Antalects. He was revered as the editor and compiler of the Five Classics. He saw his life as a failure since he was never a ruler or minister. He wanted to reassert the ways of the ANCESTORS. He did not believe that nobility or virtue was necessarily inherited. Knowledge and wisdom were important. |

Within this Chinese school of thought there was no room for the super natural or family. There was strict censorship of books and control over education. |
