o   Posterolateral part: gives rise to bony process that projects SUP (Apex or Styloid process of Fibula)

Superomedial part has facet that articulates w/ Fibular Facet of LAT Condyle of Tibia at Proximal Tibiofibular joint (Synovial; plane type)

·      Bony process on Posterolateral part of proximal end 

·      Common Fibular Nerve passes immediately LAT to neck; fractures can cause ruptures leading to Foot Drop

o   located between anterior and interosseous borders à narrowest surface of fibular shaft à gives origin to muscles of anterior compartment of leg

located between anterior and posterior borders à gives origin to muscles of lateral compartment of leg

located between posterior and interosseous borders à largest surface of fibular shaft à SUP divided by vertical bony ridge (medial crest) 

·      Vertical bony ridge on POST surface and seperates into 2 parts (posteromedial and posterolateral) à both parts give origin to muscles of posterior compartment of leg

·      for nutrient artery of fibular shaft) is located on posterior surface, usually in its posterolateral part (directed distally)

More POST and projects more Distally than Medial malleolus; Lateral surface palpable and subcutaneous

On MED surface of Lateral Malleolus; containts triangular facet for articulation with lateral surface of Body of Talus at ankle joint.

Depression on MED surface of LAT malleolus; POST to articular facet; gives attachment to Posterior Tibiofibular ligament of distal tibiofibular joint and to Posterior Talofibular ligament of ankle joint

Shallow groove on POST border of LAT Malleolous formed by Tendon of Fibularis Brevis muscle
