CNS: Dizziness (vertigo); drowsiness; delirium (AO X2); sedation; euphoria; mental clouding; lethargy; impairment of mental and physical performance; anxiety; fear; dysphoria; psychic dependence; mood changes
Cardiovascular: Circulatory depression; peripheral circulatory collapse and cardiac arrest following rapid administration; Orthostatic hypotension; Hypertension; Hypotension; Bradycardia: rapid administration may result in chest wall rigidity that will not respond to neuromuscular blockade
Respiratory: Apnea; Respiratory depression;
Gastrointestinal: Nausea; Vomiting; Constipation
Other: Miosis. (pupillary contraction) |

It is Class C with regards to pregnancy safety.
Always pay attention to using fentanyl citrate in patients with the following:
- Head inury
- advanced age, COPD, bradydysrhythmias, severe pulmonary, renal or hepatic diseases
- Patients that have taken MAOI inhibitors in the last 14 days (causes hypertensive crisis)
- Patients that are on pentobarbital and/or thiopental
