He was a child who kept track of time on one of Christopher Columbus's boats (the Santa Maria). He used 1/2 hour glasses full of sand to keep track of a half an hour. At the end of each half hour he would shout out a prayer. This was important because they needed to know the time to know how long they were gone and they also needed to keep their hopes alive with the prayers. |
