Definition
Purpose: The square knot is used to join the ends of two ropes of equal diameter together while under tension.
Checkpoints
1) Two interlocking bights
2) The running ends are on opposite ends of the knot and on the same side of the standing end.
3) Minimum 4" pigtails after the overhand safeties. |

Purpose: To join ends of two ropes of equal or similar diameter no more than 5 mm difference in diameter.
Checkpoints
1) Two ropes running side by side in the shape of a figure wight.
2) The running ends are on opposite ends of the know and on opposite sides of the standing ends.
3) Minimum 4" pigtails and no twists. |

Definition
Purpose: To tie the end of a rope around an anchor point when you have alternating tension, or to form a fixed loop in a rope.
Checkpoints
1) A bight around the standing end of the rope held in place by a loop
2) The running end of the bight is on the inside of the fixed loop.
3) Minimum 4" pigtails after the overhand safeties. |

Purpose: To anchor the end of the rope under tension
Checkpoints
1) Two turns around the anchor with the diagonal locking bar in the opposite direction of the pull.
2) The running and standing ends exit the middle of the knot.
3) Safety the running end to the standing end with the two half hitches
4) Minimum of 4" pigtails. |

1) Two round turns with a perpendicular locking bar.
2) With a double figure eight stabilizing the knot no more than 6" away from the prussic.
3) The ropes between the prussic and the double figure eight have equal tensions. |

Purpose: To prepare a climbing rope for carrying on the body.

1) Coils uniform and even, no greater than 6" difference.
2) A minimum of three turns around the coils with the first one locking on itself.
3) A double bight thru the top of the coils, securing the standing ends and dressed down.
4) A minimum of one wrap around the body and coils tied off with an unsaftied square knot.
5) Minimum 4" Pigtail. |
