Stages of Sleep
Definition
Stage 1: eye movement/muscle activity slow.
Stage 2: eye movement/brain waves stop (except for rare rapid burst).
Stage 3: slow brain waves are interspersed with smaller, faster ones.
Stage 4: Person's out cold, hard to wake up. No eye movement or muscle activity. When night terrors, bedwetting, sleepwalking is experienced.
REM Sleep: RAPID EYE MOVEMENT -> when most dreams occur. Brain waves are similar to one's who are awake, but limb muscles are temporarily paralyzed.
