Anorexia nervosa is one of the most common eating disorders to afflict american population. It is defined as a psychological disorder. A person suffering from anorexia nervosa has a distorted body image and an irrational fear of becoming overweight. Therefore, they deliberately try to lose weight. Unlike people with just simple anorexia, who experience a general loss of appetite or a lack of interest in food, people with anorexia nervosa have not lost their appetite; they have deliberately restricted their food intake because of an irrational fear of gaining weight. However, You will often see the term "anorexia" "anorexia nervosa".  

Purging Bulimia-Purging Bulimia is when you regularly cause yourself to vomit, or misuse laxatives  

Nonpurging Bulimia- Instead of purging, the person tries to rid themselves from calories and prevent weight gain, by a strict diet, excessive exercising, or fasting

Dead Skinny:dying to be thin” is a magazine that will be created in order to target young men and women who suffer from this disorder.

Goals:

Our goal is to lower the percent of young adults who suffer from bulimia or anorexia nervosa.

Objectives:

• Advise people with the disorder on how to eat and practice a healthy diet, that does not jeopardize their health or put their life at risk.

• Throw a public rally in support of the cause to raise money to fund the publishing of the first two editions of the magazine.

• Decrease the number of bulimia and anorexia nervosa inflicted deaths per year in the United States by 25%.

• With the help and funds from the Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA),and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), we will plan public events and interviews with the purpose of raising extra money to continue making and publishing new editions of Dead Skinny: “dying to be thin”.

We will raise money through donations from BANA, ANAD, local establishments that wish to help, and any other individual that is up to supporting our cause. The following will be held:

• Interviews

• Rallies

• Food Drives

• Fashion shows

• Local concerts

Plan a public rally in support of the cause to raise money and awareness

The Rally Against Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa will involve donated food to our collaborating associations, BANA, and ANAD, that will be prepared and sold in order to raise money to create and publish the first two editions of our magazine. There will also be local bands and other performers donating their time to raise money for the magazine. With the help of our collaborating associations we hope to raise 5,000 dollars to create and publish our first two editions of  “Dead Skinny: ‘dying to be thin’”.

The Public Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa rally will be held May 23rd at Tempe Marketplace at 3pm. The event will be promoted by BANA and ANAD, and a Facebook and Twitter page will be made to make people aware of  this event. The food will be provided by local donations received after a food drive for the cause that will be held on May 20th in the area of Tempe, Gilbert, Mesa, and Chandler. The band will be any local easy-listening band willing to play charitably.

The Fashion Show: Fight Against Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa will be held June 5th at the Scottsdale Fashion Square at 6pm. The models for the runway will be acquired through an ad published on our Facebook and Twitter page. All the young women and men willing to participate in this event will be allowed to donate their time, and it will be much appreciated. It will be a rewarding experience for all those who decide to contribute to this noble cause. The ‘unhealthy models’ will be hired with the money donated by people in our previous events. They will be encourage to tell their story in attempt to influence others suffering from the disorder.

BANA- This organization will be used to help us make the publishing of the magazine possible. All of our funds will come from BANA, and one other organization. They will also make the events possible. They will help us run the events, and help hold the pasta dinner. They will help sponsor us and get the word out. Without their help, we wouldn’t have been able to make this event possible.

ANAD- This organization will help us provide counseling, and hold meetings to get people to talk about what they are struggling with. Another large part of our funds will come from this organization. Every edition of the magazine after the first two will be made and published with the money and help from ANAD, and BANA. Talking things through is the best way to cope with what you are dealing with. This organization holds conferences on a daily basis and helps people cope with what they are dealing with. We couldn’t have done this without them.

ANRED- We will be using the help with ANRED a non-profit organization to help us with our mission. They have a table of contents that describes what they do. They will talk to people attending these events, and help them find places that they can go and get help. Each organization will be a big part of our events and mission, and they will help us get to our goal.

NAMI- We will use NAMI for our magazine to tell everyone reading it of events that they are providing. They hold walks, and discussion groups to help people get involved and improve. They will also be at our rally and pasta night dinner to tell more people about what they do, and how you can join.

Remuda Ranch- We will have Remuda Ranch at pasta dinner night, and at the rally to talk about what they do. We will also ask them if they will include an ad in our magazine to get the word out. They have a Binge eating disorder program, and they also have residential treatment center to help people get back on track.
