Distinguish between the geosphere, lithosphere, and crust of the Earth. What science deals with these parts of the environment? |
|
Definition
The geosphere consists of the solid earth. The top layer of the geosphere that varies from 50 to 100 km in thickness and that is directly involved with environmental process through contact with the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and living things is the solid lithosphere. The most important part of the lithosphere, insofar as interactions w/ the other spheres of the environment are concerned is its thin outer skin that is composed largely of lighter silicate based minerals and is called the crust. Geology is the science of the geosphere. |
