The government had a tax on whiskey ( an alcohol drink made from grain like corn). Pennsylvania farmers made more money from their grain crop if they turned it into whiskey rather than ship the grain.They could sell the whiskey for almost 20 times more than the grain.Sometimes Farmers traded the whiskey for other food and they had no real cash for the tax. They used the whiskey as money. They did not pay the tax until President Washington sent troops to get the tax money. |
