Definition
gram-positive coccobaccilli bacteria
Clinical Signs: lethargy, tachypneic, purulent nasal discharge, crackling and wheezing can be heard upon auscultation, and diarrhea
Diagnosis:transtracheal wash bacterial culture, CBC, chemistries, radiographs
Zoonotic: yes immunocompromised people can be fatal

Streptococcus equi, gram-positive cocci bacteria
Clinical Signs: fever, mucopurulent discharge, submandibular lymph nodes swelling then abscessation, painful swallowing, retching, extension of neck, anorexia, depression
Typically more severe in foals, older horses experience milder cases
Diagnosis:

Transmission: direct or indirect contact with contaminated animal feces or housing
Clinical Signs:some cases are subclinical, reduced feed intake, severe acute diarrhea, septicemia and abortions
Diagnosis: bacterial culture and PCR testing
Zoonotic: yes
Prevention: good hygene practices
