- 1st gen. antidepressant
- highest risk of suicide because; NO antidote for OD or poisoning
- SE: dysrythmias, seizure, headache
- caution: w/ hepatic, renal & cardiac dysfunction
- no concurrent use w/ MAOI, St. Johns wort due to hypertensive crisis and possible death
- Monitor: BP, and cardio
- up to 4wks for results. give @ night due to sedative effect
- **DON'T stop abruptly**
