Gums. The scalloped, lighter color collar around the teeth is the attached gingiva. This tough, thich kind of skin also coveres teh palate. It is strong and resists being bruised by chewing forces. The unattached gingiva is directly below the band of attached gingiva. It is much thinner skin such that small capillaries can be seen through its surface. |
