150 Forceps
Definition
Universal UPPER arch extraction forceps. Can extract any exposed tooth in the UPPER arch.

The PEDO version is the 150-S forceps.

Definition
Universal LOWER arch extraction forceps and can extract any exposed tooth on the LOWER arch.

The PEDO version is the 151-S.

23 Forceps
Definition
Useful for extracting LOWER EXPOSED MOLARS only.

Sometimes referred to as COWHORN forceps because of their shape.

301, 34 Elevators
Definition
Look like small screwdrivers and are useful for loosening the teeth prior to grasping with the forceps.

The smaller numbered elevators have WIDER tips.

Often the teeth can be removed with just these elevators, and the forceps are not needed.

Have sharp, triangular points on their end and are used to remove root stumps and difficult to extract posterior roots.

A wide, bent, tongue blade-like instrument and is used to hold the cheeks and lips out of the way of the operation field.

Usually this is only necessary in third molar extraction cases where poor visibility and limited require the use of retractors like this.

Differs from regular HVE suction tips in that the surgical suction tips are much narrower to be able to remove debris and blood from small areas such as tooth sockets.

Long, curved scissors used to cut sutures and tissue.

The bend of the blades helps in limited access areas such as the third molar area.

Tweezers like instrument which holds teh suture needle securely so the sutures may be places in the tissue to close the wound.

This is the 'thread' used to sew up the surgical site.
SILK SUTURES are sometimes used and a number specifies the thickness of the thread. 3-0 (three-oh) is the most common used but 4-0 (thinner), and 5-0 (thinnest) are also used.

Used in major extraction cases immediately after the surgery (post-op) to reduce the swelling. Usually the method is to place the ice pack on the face for 15 minutes ON, then 15 minutes OFF, for the next 8 hours.

2X2 gauze pads (5-10) which have been previously sterilized are places on the tray to be used during surgery and to have the patient bite on to stop the bleeding when the surgery is completed.

Like a scaler, it is also used to remove hard calculus from teeth. It differs from scalers in that the tip is ROUNDED.
