Term
What are the steps in neurogenesis? |
Definition
Neurogenic development
- Determination of neurogenic region
- Selectior of neural precursors
Neuronal development
- Pathway selection
- Target selection
Term
Explain the determination of the neurogenic region. |
Definition
Edges of neural plate raise above surface and forms 2 parallel folds with a depression (the neural groove).
These come together over the dorsal midline and a tube separates it from adjacent ectoderm. |
Term
Explain the selection of neural precursors. |
Definition
Neuroblasts in ventral pole move inwards. Form 3 longditudinal collumns each side of ventral midline. They divide into proneural clusters and these produce signals to promote their own development. This prevents adjacent cells from following it's fate. |
Term
Explain pathway selection. |
Definition
Axons spout from immature neurons and elongate through tissues to reach synaptic partners in other areas of the body, guided by the growth cone. |
Term
Explain target selection. |
Definition
These can have long-range cues (chemoattraction and chemorepulsion) or short range cues (contact attraction and repulsion). |
