Farm Life
Farm life for some colonists was simply a way to provide for all of their needs. But to be able to farm, they had to clear the land of trees with very minimal, basic equipment. They also used said tools for building the rest of the farm such as the barn and fencing. Waking up early was normal for people on the farm due to all the chores that needed to be done.Surprisingly cooking was a very dangerous thing to do due to the danger of burning your finger or straining you back liftingheavy utinsils. They lived very modestly and without many luxeries. |

City Life
The life in the city was filled with bustling with life and people. THe streets were filled with rodents and pungent smells. Completely unlike the countryside the perople in the city worked normal wage jobs with set hours similar to today. The houses were built similarly to the ones in Europe except for the small windows. Candels and torches were scattered amongst the streets and houses causing a huge fire hazard. When such fires appeared, the colonists grapped buckets and such and went to a river, pond, or well to recieve water. |

Education
Most of the children in the colonies, unless they came from rich families recieved little to no schooling. THere was aslo the fact that people belived that boys hould recieve education and not girls, lowing the rate of education even moreIn the Middle and Southern colonies there were no public schools. Some people may get together to hire a teacher or rich children would be sent away for schooling. Because of religion, the middle colonies way of education differed btween families. Because of the lack of schooling and religious pressure a law was passed that stated depending on the number of familes a town had a teacher would have to be hired or a school would need to be built. Although they had schools, the facilities, equipment, and structure were far lacking. |

Families
Families during colonial times were very different compared to now. The people considered rtheir family included cousins, aunts, uncles, and stepchildren. Families also consisted of a lot of children. A family in the city had around 7-10 kids as the families on the farns often had more due to the lack of staff hands on the farm. Women gave birth to children frequently, but they often died young and the women would die too. Therefpre soon after the wife passed away the husband would remarry making stepchildren and illegitamate children a common occurence. Children were expected to be useful and productive no matter the religion they were born into. Regarding marriage, unless they came to the colonies as an indentured servant, men and women got married rather early in their early to mid 20s. Because there were more men than women, women were given a "wide variety" of choices, especially girls from promanent or well known families. |
