Developed by Collins and Loftus (1975). Suggests that concepts in LTM are linked in a complex network, with each concept having many links with other concepts.

LTM

Long-term memory. Tulving (1972) fractionated it into Semantic memory and episodic memory. Cohen and Squire (1980) grouped these into Declarative memory and added Procedural memory.

A: To establish how quickly information is forgotten over time.

P: Read through a long list of nonsense syllables, tried to recall them. Repeated until all were recalled. Then looked at how quickly items were forgotten.

F: At first a lot of items forgotten, but with successive trials, rate of forgetting decreased.

C: Immediate forgetting is loss from STM, loss over time is from LTM.

C: Only one ppt. Low ecological validity - CVCs and lists.

1. Encouraging witness to recall info in variety of orders.

2. Recall as much info as possible, even if seemingly insignificant.

3. Report from variety of perspectives and Ps.O.V.

4. Close eyes if necessary, relax.

5. Reinstate environment and also personal context of the crime, happenings and also thoughts and feelings.
