- Denial : He may not accept when a person is made aware that he is going to die. He may not accept this information as truth and may instead deny it.
- Anger : The pts may blame those around her, including those who are giving care, for her illness.
- Bargaining : is the stage in the grief process in which the patient attempts to bargain for more time to live. Trying to make private 'deals' with God or her higher power is also common.
- Depression : During this stage, the pts comes to a full realization that he will die soon. He is sddened by the thought that he will no longer be with family and friends, and by the fact that he may not have accomplished some goals that he had set for himself. He may also express regrets about not having gone somewhere or done something.
- Acceptance : patient understands and accepts the fact that he is going to die. During this stage, he may try to complete unfinished business, make the most of the time left, try to help those around him to deal with it, especially family members.
