-I completed an honours psychology degree last year at the University of Guelph. I had some really great experiences there and I learned a lot, and so I am hoping to continue gaining skills and experience by completing a clinical psychology program. -Until then I am back home in Toronto working full-time at the CCAC and volunteering. -I consider myself to be a friendly, optimistic and outgoing person, but at the same time I am very compassionate and calm empathetic, and non-judgemental. -I try to be a well-rounded person, I really enjoyed being engaged on campus and in the community while at the same time staying on the Dean's honour list each semester, and following my own hobbies and interests |

-I am not a very competitive person so until recently I have never really pushed myself hard to be a high achiever -I am much happier working collaboratively with people rather than competing against them |

-While I really enjoy my job now I would like the opportunity to take on more responsibility in a research setting as well as to have the opportunity to work directly with clients, so a clinical psychology program would provide me with the opportunity to do both |

-I typically try to approach the person first in a non-confrontational way a couple times if the situation allows, and then escalate as appropriate -Example: once as a research assistant I was one of two people coding some qualitative data, and we were asked to go through and compare our codes to change minor grammatical things but not change out actual codes so we could compare our reliability -And my co-worker was not as clear on the instructions so after a couple times of me letting him know gently, oh we can't really change anything significantly, then I suggested we just double check with our supervisor to be sure -After that we were able to continue on more quickly and we were able obtain an accurate picture of our reliability |

What's your biggest achievement? |

-My honours thesis project. I put the a lot of time and effort into that project and it was reflected in my final grade as well as the fact that I was able to present it at a conference |

-I have gained a lot of experience now breaking up projects into small manageable pieces and aiming to complete everything well in advance to I have "buffer" time in case I run into any difficulties |

How do you cope with tedious work? |

-I look for other projects and tasks to assist with in addition to the more "tedious" aspects. -I also take time to remind myself of the "big picture" of what is being accomplished, so what I am doing doesn't feel pointless. -For example, at the CCAC they had Quality Rounds where they would showcase different quality improvement initiatives and share client experience stories. -Break up the day and switch between tasks to ensure I can stay focused and the quality of work doesn't slip. |
