three paragraph theme
Definition
the theme of this unit dealt with slavery. slavery was a dangerious topic that was continuously swept under the rug. the states made quik fixes like the compromise of 1850 and the missouri compromise. the union was a doomed marriage or union because they would never survive without tackling the issue properly. Finally the bond or marriage was over.

the compromise of 1850 was just a way to solve the problem of slavery short term. it is used to show the theme because it shows the north and south tugging at eachother. the fugitive slave law shows the south got a tug. than the north pulled back with no slave trade in DC.

the missouri compromise is also used to show the theme. the north and south were again playing a game of tug-a-war with eachothe and as soon as wone looked like it was going to win the other pulled just as hard. when the south got missouri to be a slave state. the north pulled and got main to be a free state. than they decided to play fair and make the 36, 30 degree line where everything above was free and everything below was slave. those were all ways that the compromises were just short term fixes.
