How is Oil extracted from Plants? |

Definition
Plant material is crushed and pressed between metal plates to squash the oil out. Oil can be seperated from the crushed plant material by a centrifuge. Distillation refines oil removing water, solvents and impurites. |

Because they provide a lot of energy. There are other nutrients in vegetable oils (eg they contain Vitamin E and fatty acids which are needed for metabolic processes) |

Definition
They have higher boiling points than water meaning that they can be used to cook foods at higher temperatures and at faster speeds. The oil 'carries' the flavour in foods because many flavours come from chemicals that are soluble in oil. It also increases the energy we get from our food. |
