- Soft callus- rich mixture of of granulation tissue, cartilage, and woven bone. it loosely unites the ends of a broken bone but cannot bear weight
- Bony callus- the soft callus turns into bony callus: as more bone is deposited and the woven bone and cartilage are increasingly replaced by spongy bone. It binds the bone ends more securly and is capable of limited weight bearing
