Type: Atypical antipsychotic

Adverse Effect: Agranulocytosis, sedation, weight gain, bone marrow suppression

Clinical Uses: Schizophrenia refractory to other antipsychotics

Dosage Form: Available IM as the decanoate ester

 

Adverse Effects: Parkinson symptoms, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia

 

Contraindications: Parkinson's disease

 

Treats: Psychosis, Tourrett's syndrome

 

Other Uses: Used to treat an overdose of amphetamines

Definition

Class: SSRI

 

Adverse Effects: Constipation, sexual dysfunction, seritonin syndrome (caused when used with MAOIs; characterized by hyperthermia, muscle rigidity, myoclonus, and rapid fluctuation in mental status)  gastrointestinal distress

 

Contraindications: The use of other MAOI's

 

Treats: Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Post-traumatic stress disorder, pain syndrome

Type: SNRIs

 

Adverse Effects: neuroleptic malignant syndrome, hepatitis, exacerbate mania or depression, hypertension, weight loss, sweating, blurred vision,  gastrointestinal distress, nervousness, sexual dysfunction

 

Contraindications: Use of MAOIs

 

Treats: Depression, anxiety, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia

Adverse Effect: Steven Johnson syndrome, bone marrow suppression, hepatotoxicity, osteopenia, sedation, ataxia, confusion, dizziness, decreased libido, depression

 

Contraindications: Porphyria, severe liver dysfuntion, respiratory disease

 

Clinical Uses: Pre-operative anesthetic, Emergency Seizure, Insomnia

Adverse Effect: Stevens-Johnson's syndrome, bone marrow suppression, hepatotoxicity, osteopenia, sedation, ataxia,  confusion, dizziness, decreased libido, depression

 

Contraindications: Porphyria, severe liver dysfunction, respiratory disease 

 

Clinical Use: Anticonvulsant (especially tonic-clonic seizures), inomnia
