Family Functions

The goal of the family is survival and personal fulfillment of each member, and provide growth and development for its members, and establishment of values and governing rules.

Family function: physical maintenance

Provides member with food, clothing, water, and shelter to what degree it depends on economic status.

Family function: Protection

This where family needs protection against illness and injury. Forms of protection is health screening, genetic counseling, immunizations. Done by education, training, role modeling.   

Family Function: Nurturance

Done by loving care and attention, unconditional love, acceptance and emotional support.

Family Function: Socialization

This first take place at home, learn how to interact with others by observing family. And at church, boys and girls clubs.

Family Function: Education

This also beings at home where the parents teach them morals and values, and schools.  Other agency that can assist is the boys and girls clubs and church.

This functions is how the family survives from generation to generation should be pyschologically and physically prepared.

Family Function: Recreation

This function helps the patient to spend more time together with family having fun.

Family Types: Nuclear Family

Consist of traditional family- husband, wife, and children. Marriage is binding force

Family Types: Extended

This family type consist of nuclear family plus having grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins living in the same house, sharing resources and responsiblilities.

Family Types: Single Parent

This type is an adult living with one or more children, higher moratlity rate.
