Term
Why is a stress echo done?
Definition
To look for wall motion, measure ejection volumes, view wall thickening, valvular dysfunction. It's used when ECG is unreliable for detection of ischemia ie: LBBB can't be seen on ECG.
Term
When can the stress echo be done?
Definition
At rest and immediately (within 1-2min) after exercise completion.
Term
What is the problem w/ stress echo?
Definition
We can't do them during exercise, so we can only see what happens when pt says it's enough - not what leads up to that point.
Term
What does MUGA stand for?
Definition
Multi-ECG Gated Acquisition.
Term
What is MUGA used for?
Definition
To estimate wall motion, ventricular volume & EF - ischemia detection.
Term
What heart quality is necessary in order to perform a MUGA?
Definition
normal sinus rhythm.
Term
In what position is a MUGA performed in?
Definition
semisupine or supine.
Term
What is a radionucleotide GET and what is it used for?
Definition
a radioactive dye is carried through the vascular system to evaluate vascular deficiencies; the extent and distribution of ischemia during exercise.
Term
What is physiologic stress testing?
Definition
A chemical is used to increase HR while you're laying on the table. Drugs = Dobutamin or Dipyridamole/adenosine.
Term
What is the problem w/ physiologic stress tests?
Definition
It's very uncomfortable b/c it puts the pt at an exercising HR while they're at rest. Most ppl don't like this test very much.
Term
Dobutamine and Dipyridamole/adenosine are used in physiologic stress tests. What do they do?
Definition
Dobutamin increase HR and contractility. Dipyridamole/adenosine vasodilates.
Term
What are the uses of physiologic stress tests? (4)
Definition
Dx CAD, assess myocardial viability prior to CABG, prognosis post-MI, assess pre-op risk.
