Definition
1. Place one hand on the victim’s forehead and push with your palm to tilt the head back. 2. Place the fingers of the other hand under the bony part of the lower jaw near the chin. 3. Lift the jaw forward. |

a. Press deeply into the soft tissue under the chin as this may obstruct the airway. b. Use the thumb to lift the chin. c. Close the victims mouth completely, (unless you are using the mouth-to-nose breathing technique.) |

Definition
1. Hold the victim’s airway open with the head tilt-chin lift. 2. Using the hand on the victim's forehead, pinch the victim's nose closed with your thumb and index finger. 3. Take a regular (NOT DEEP) breath and seal your lips around the victim's mouth, creating an airtight seal. 4. Give 1 breath by blowing for 1 second and watch for the victim's chest to rise. (If the chest does not rise, repeat the head tilt-chin lift!) 5. Give a second breath by blowing for 1 second and again watch for the victim's chest to rise. |

1. Position yourself at the victim's side. 2. Place the mask on the victim's face, using the bridge of the nose as a guide for correct positioning. 3. Seal the mask against the victim's face by: *Using the hand that is closer to the top of the victim's head, place the index finger and thumb along the upper border of the mask. *Placing the thumb of the other hand along lower boarder of the mask. 4. Using the hand on the lower half of the mask, place the remaining fingers of your hand closer to the victim's neck along the bony margin of the jaw and lift the jaw, performing a head tilt-chin lift to open the airway. 5. As you lift the jaw, press firmly and completely around the outside margin of the mask to ensure an airtight seal against the victim's face. 6. Give breaths as usual. |

1. Position yourself directly above the victim's head. 2. Place the mask on the victim's face, using the bridge of the victim's nose as a guide for correct positioning. 3. Use the E-C clamp technique to hold the mask in place while you lift the jaw to hold the airway open by: *Perform a head tilt-chin lift. *Then use the thumb and index finger of one hand to make a "C", pressing along the edges of the top portion of the mask, holding the mask to the victim's face. *Finally use the remaining fingers to lift the angles of the jaw (3 fingers forming an "E") and opening the airway. 4. Squeeze the bag to give breaths (1 second each) and watch for the chest to rise. |
