Definition
• The development of emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor(s) occurring within 3 months of the onset of the stressor(s)
• These symptoms or behaviors are clinically significant as evidenced by either of the following:
o Marked distress that is in excess of what would be expected from exposure to the stressor
o Significant impairment in social or occupational (academic) functioning
• Does not meet the criteria for another specific Axis I disorder
• The symptoms do not represent bereavement
• Once the stressor (or its consequences) has terminated, the symptoms do not persist for more than an additional 6 months |

Generalized Anxiety Disorder |

Definition
- A. Excessive anxiety and worry (apprehensive expectation), occurring more days than not for at least 6 months, about a number of events or activities (such as work or school performance).
- B. The person finds it difficult to control the worry.
- C. The anxiety and worry are associated with three (or more) of the following symptoms for the past 6 months. Note: Only one item is required in children.
- (1) restlessness or feeling keyed up or on edge
- (2) being easily fatigued
(3) difficulty concentrating or mind going blank (4) irritability (5) muscle tension
- (6) sleep disturbance (difficulty falling or staying asleep, or restless unsatisfying sleep)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder |

Definition
A. Either obsessions or compulsions
B. At some point during the course of the disorder, the person has recognized that the obsessions or compulsions are excessive or unreasonable. NOTE: does not apply to children
C. The obsessions or compulsions caused marked distress, are time consuming (take more that 1 hr/day) or significantly interfere w/ the person's normal routine, occupational (or academic) fxing, or usual social activities or relationships |
