The movement is sort of like popping two balloons with a needle. It also looks a lot like the sign for the number "99." The second movement happens further to the outside of your signing space. (Which is to say the movement goes from in to out, not from out to in. In other words if you were indeed popping two balloon that were side by side, you'd pop the one on the left first then pop the one on the right.) In the example below I'm doing the sign a bit more casually. |

Handshape: Both hands are in a relaxed flat hand shape.. By "relaxed" I mean the fingers can be together, or they can be loosely separated. The hands are not "rigidly" flat, but have a very slight curve. The thumbs are open a little bit, but certainly not "extended." Location: Out in front of you, about belly height. Orientation: palms facing up Movement: Each hand moves in a small circle. They don't go up and down. They both move forward, then out to the side, then back toward the body, then in towards each other. Non-Manual Marker (Facial expressions and or body language) neutral. |

Memory Aid: Think of a teacher clapping her hands to get the student's attention. Other meanings: "Academic" Handshape: loose "flat" hands. (Or even "5" hands, but the fingers tend to be together.) Location: In the neutral signing space in front of the body Orientation: Right hand faces down. Left hand faces up. Movement: "Clap" the hands together twice. (Do it quietly. No need to make noise. Duh.) |

Both hands are in loose "flat" handshapes. They are not "5" handshapes, but then again they are not "B" handshapes either. The dominant hand starts from a couple inches above the base hand and does a circling movement as it slaps downward and comes back up a few inches. |

The sign for Gallaudet (both the University and the man) is the same as one of the versions of the sign for "GLASSES." Use a single motion. Start at the side of the eye with a "wide G handshape" and pull the hand backward about two inches into a "closed G handshape." |

The sign for "tired" starts out very similar to the sign "HAVE" and then the hands slump downward. Don't slide the hands downward, just change the orientation of the hands. |
