during the time when Hadrian was emperor. it was the temple of all the gods. it is one of the best preserved buildings. it reveals the full potential of concrete, both as a means of building material and shaping architecture space. behind the columnar porch was a huge dome 142 feet in diameter. they built up the cylindrical drum by a variety of different they used lighter concrete as they got higher up the dome to lessen the weight. as it nears towards the oculus (30 ft in diameter) they used coffers in the domes ceiling to lessen the weight too
