Guernica by Pablo Picasso

Definition
History: Francisco Franco was in power at the time Hitler was taking over Germany and other territories in Europe. He was concerned with Spain's position in the war and was very interested in what Hitler was doing so he allowed Hitler to drop bombs on Guernica, a small town in Spain, without notice to the people. Many innocent people died. The painting of a political yet national tragedy in Spain was unlike Picasso but he felt it necessary to portray the sadness of the people of Guernica. This painting was the hybrid to cubism and expressionism. It was not displayed in Spain until after the death of Franco.
