Term
Metronidazole ( Flagyl).

mechanism of action?
Definition
antibacterial/ antiparasitic. It has a nitro group and that nitro group generates reactive oxygen , which causes destrutive effects to the cell components such as the DNA, proteins, membranes of the micro-organism.
Term
Why is Metronidazole( flagyl) considered a prodrug?
Definition
because it has to be activated by the bioreducation of the 5-position nitro group
Term
are the organisms aerobic or anaerobic that are effected by the antibacterial/antiparastic drug metronidazole (flagyl)
Definition
anerobic
Term
what is Metronidazole (flagyl) used for the treatment of?
Definition
protozoa infections amebiasis ( inestinal and extraintestinal), giardiasis, and trichomoniasis, gram positive bacilli clostridium difficile, helibacter pylori infection
Term
Metronidazole ( Flagyl). treatment??
Definition
protozoa infections amebiasis ( inestinal and extraintestinal), giardiasis, and trichomoniasis, gram positive bacilli clostridium difficile, helibacter pylori infection
Term
Tindazole (Tindaamax)- mechanism of action?
Definition
the same of metronidazole
Term
Tindazole (Tindamax) is used for the treatment of what?
Definition
amebiasis, giardiasis and trichomoniasis. It also had a nitro group.
Term
Nitazoxanide (Alina) what is its mechanism of action?
Definition
it inhibits pyruvate ferredoxin oxidoreductase enzyme, which is responsible for anerobic glucose energy metabolism
Term
Nitazoxanide (Alina) and its treatment usages?
Definition
diarrhea caused by giardia lamblia. Its also a prodrug
Term
Pentamidine (pentam -300, Nebupent)- mechanism of action?
Definition
it inhibits the topoisomerase ( an enzyme that regulates unwinding or underwinding of DNA)
Term
Atovaquone (Mepron) . mechanism of action?
Definition
interferes with the mitochondrial respiratory chain- especially by inhibiting ubiquinone reductase(it is the first enzyme (complex 1) of the mitochondrial electron transport chain
Term
most severe malaria is caused by?
Definition
falciparum
Term
Quinine, mechanism of action?
Definition
a drug used for malaria. blood schizontide ( activily against plasmodium in the erythrocytic stage
Term
in the drugs of malaria, what does the quinine moiety look like?
Definition
it looks like two benzene rings attachted together with a H3CO group on the 6th carbon
Term
Choroquinine ( Aralen) has a Cl at the carbon 7 of the two attached benzene rings, what is that cl atom useful for?
Definition
the increased activity.
Term
How many chiral centers does chloroquine have?
Definition
one chiral center, which is right next to the amine group
Term
Mefloquine, what is the struture? how many chiral centers does it have?
Definition
The sturture is the same as all quinines with the two benezens rings attached to each other. but it has two triflouromethyl group
Term
what are the positions on chloroquine that having an alkylation there might reduce the activity?
Definition
C-3. C-7
