Field of anesthesia - Numbs the pulps of the maxillary first, second and third molars, and the buccal periodontium on the injected side. Sometimes the mesiobuccal root of the maxillary first molar will not recieve entire innervation or no innervation at all
Penetration site - the height of the mucobuccal fold, posterior to the zygomatic process of the maxilla & generally superior to the distobuccal root of the maxillary second molar
Landmarks - look for the height of the mucobuccal fold, posterior to the zygomatic process of the maxilla & generally superior to the distobuccal root of the maxillary second molar
Needle length - 25 or 27 gauge, 27 short guage is most commonly used
Angle of insertion - upward insertion at a 45 degree angle to the midsagittal plane, then advanced backward behind the posterior aspect of the maxilla
Penetration - 16 mm; can range from 10-16 mm
Amount of Anesthesia - 0.9 ml to 1.8 ml after negative aspiration |

Field of Anesthesia - pulps of maxillary 1st and 2nd premolars & their facial gingiva, periodontal ligament, & alveolar bone. Sometimes the mesiobuccal root of the 1st molar, and occasionally the cheek & upper lip may be affected
Penetration site - height of the mucobuccal fold over the maxillary 2nd premolar
Landmarks - mucobuccal fold next to the maxillary 2nd premolar
Needle Length - 27 or 25 gauge short needle
Angle of insertion - align the syringe barrel along the contour of the maxilla
Penetration - 5-8 mm
Amount of anesthetic used - 0.9 ml to 1.2 ml

Field of Anesthesia - pulps of maxillary central incisors through the canine on the injected side & their facial periodontium, also the lip, cheek, and lower nose
Penetration site - at the height of the mucobuccal fold anterior to the canine eminence
Landmarks - the site is above the apical area of the canine at the height of the canine fossa
Needle length - 27, 25 or 30 gauge needle
Angle of insertion: -align the barrel of the syringe parallel to the long axis of the canine, following the contour of the maxilla
How much needle is inserted - 3-6 mm
Amount of anesthesia - 0.9 ml

Field of anesthesia - no teeth just palatal tissues of posterior teeth
Penetration site - in the palatal soft tissue slightly anterior to the greater palatine foramen, at the anterior border of the depression formed by the foramen
Landmarks - pterygopalatine fossa, pterygopalatine canal, greater palatine foramen and depression formed by the foramen
Needle length - 27 gauge short needle (most common) or 30 gauge short or x short needle.
Angle of insertion - perpendicular to the palatal bone of the foramen, with the syringe barrel near the lower lip
Penetration - 4-6 mm sometimes up to 10mm
Amount of anesthesia - 0.45 ml, injection is 0.4 ml over 30 seconds or approximately 1.8 ml over 2 minutes
