All originate originally in ectoderm, but migrate into the dermis layer 1. Sweat glands: most are merocrine, all have a duct leading up through the epidermis 2. Sebaceous Glands: holocrine in type, secrete oily substance. Most of the ducts empty into hair shafts, but some empty on the skin surface. Prevents drying of the skin and hair. |

Each hair originates from a hair follicle which begins its decelopment in the epidermis, then grows down to take up residence in the dermis with the hair shaft projection up through the epidermis to the outside. --each hair follicle is attached to an arrector pili muscle. makes hair stand up. |
