Republican - Massachusetts

• commited abolitionist, 1st to join new political party, the Republicans
• wrote "The Crime Against Kansas" using metaphors of rape
• singles out senate colleagues and personally disrespects them in a speech

• treaty that ended the Mexican-American War
• gave US Rio Grande as Texas boundary and California
• US had to pay $15mil to Mexico 

• Religious Society of Friends
• believed in no sex ever, no marriage, no kids, etc
• quaked with emotion when having church sermons 

• brings Texas into the US
• seceeded from Union and was removed from office
• retired and refused Union offer to put down rebellion to avoid bloodshed 

• passed in 1820
• prohibited slavery north of the 36*30' line "forever free"
• permitted in Missouri and Arkansas territory 

• comes up with Anaconda Plan to win the war for the north
• take control of all the confederacy's ports
• doesn't win, but a modified version is what wins the war in the long run
