Materials/Industrial advantage--Because all investments in the south were put into agriculture, they had little weapons (weapons were produced in the North, more industrial) North overwhelmed the South with their materials (i.e. shoes) Gen. Lee decided to rob a shoe store, Bluecoats (Union) spot the soldiers raiding the store, shots are fired but the town wasn't a good location for a battle, so they decide to meet on the outskirts of town.
