Inflammation of the pancreas is caused by a premature activation of excessive pancreatic enzymes that destroy ductal tissue and pancreatic cells, resulting in autodigestion and fibrosis of the pancreas. |

Definition
Jaundice- occurs from swelling of the head of the pancreas, which slows bile flow through the common bile duct
Intermittent hyperglycemia- occurs from the release of glucagon and decreased release of insulin from the damaged pancreatic islet cells
Left lung pleural effusions-occur when exudate containing pancreatic enzymes pass from the peritoneal cavity into the pleural cavity.
Multi-sstem organ failure-caused by necrotizing hemorrhagic pancreatitis
