Term
Definition
- Transcribes most ribosomal genes -*5.8S, 18S and 28S rRNA genes |
Term
Definition
-protein coding genes, snoRNA, some snRNA - transcribes RNA complementary to antisense strand - catalyzes the formation of phosphodiester bonds between nucleotides - no primer needed - Moves down DNA, unwinds just ahead of active site - Uses triphophates, hydrolyzes them to provide energy for reaction |
Term
Definition
-tRNA genes, 5s rRNA, some snRNA and other small RNA genes |
Term
Definition
- genomic sequence in mature mRNA; most is translated into protein |
Term
Definition
Sequence that is removed from pre-RNA |
Term
Definition
Regulatory sequence where transcription in initiated |
Term
Initiation of Transcription |
Definition
1) TBP+TAF bind TATAA box at minor groove, bending DNA 2) TFIIA and B come next at major groove 3) TFIIF complexed with POL 2 arrives and positined at start site; also contains factors for cleavage, poly A and capping - TFIIE and TFIIH arrive; H provides initiating helicase activity and phosphorylates POLII CTD, causes TFs to dissociate - Elongation starts |

Term
Definition
Arrives complexed with POL2, allows POL2 to attach to initiation complex |
Term
Definition
- Helps the TFIIH's helicase activity |
Term
Definition
- Helicase activity, forms transcription bubble - Phosphorylates CTD to initiate elongation |

Term
Definition
- After about 25 nucleotides have been synthesized, the 5' end of RNA has a CAP added, 7 methyl guanosine - Attached 5' to 5' using triphospate bridge |
Term
Definition
- One gene can give rise to several splice isoforms - Average 3 splice isoforms/human gene |
Term

Definition
~20-50 bp upstream of 3' splice site |
Term
Definition
1) U2AF and BBP recognize the BP and bind 2) U2 binds at branch point removing BBP and u2af and exposing the Adenine 3) U1 pairs at the 3' site 4) U4/6 are paired together and arrive in complex with u5, forms a lariat 5) Rearrangements are occured so that U4 is released allowing U6 to remove U1 freeing the 5' site 6) Adenine from BP is now in position to attack the 5' splice site and forms the lariat by cutting the phospate backbone 7) U5 rearranges bringing exons closer and the join and the lariat is cut at the 3' site and released. 8) lariat is degraded and mRNA is recycled |

Definition
- Initiated by a specific 3' sequence in mRNA called 3' end processing sequence - Clvg stim factor AND cleavage+poly A specificity factor travel with the RNA po2 tail and are transferred to 3' end processing sequence of newly synth RNA - RNA in claved - Poly A pol adds ~200s from ATP to the 3' end w/o template |
