Definition
[image]A solution is a homogenous mixture of one or more solutes dissolved in a sulvant. A homogenous has the same mixture throughout. A sulvant is what the solutes are dissolved in. A heterogenous has a different mixture throughout. It changes throughout a test or experiment. |

Term
Where can solutions be found? |
Definition
[image]
A solution is a mixture of two or more substances. A mixture is when two or more substances are mixed together to make something different. A substance can be a liquid or a solid. A solution can be found when one substance disolves into another, as in sugar disolving into water. |
Term
What are the parts of a solution? |
Definition
The two parts are the sulvant and solute. The sulvant is what gets dissolved and the solute is what dissolves the sulvant into the mixture. Disolving is when one substance mixes with another and is mixed into it so that you can no longer see the substance that is being dissolved. |

Term
An acid is a chemical substance that neutralizes alkalis and dissolves some metals.
A base is a substance that produces hydroxide ions |
Definition
What are some characteristics of an acid, base, and salt? Acid: It tastes sour, they react to metal, and react with bases to form salts and water.
Bases: It tastes, it feels slippery, react with oils and grease , and react with acids to form salts and water Salts: Usually present as spector ions, formed from the anion of the acid and the cation of the base. |

Term
Nutralization is when a reaction occurs between an acid and a base, which produces a nutral solution |
Definition
What is a nutral reaction? a chemical reaction in which an acid and a base interact with the formation of a salt; with strong acids and bases the essential reaction is the combination of hydrogen ions with hydroxyl ions to form water |
Term
A compound is something that is composed of two or more separate elements.
Produced is when you make or produce something. |
Definition
Identify when a chemical reaction takes place
You will know when a chemical reation takes place when different compounds are produced. |
Term
What are the four signs of a chemical reaction? |
Definition
The four signs of a chemical reaction are color change, change in temperature, bubbles, and precipitation. |
Term
What are the parts of a chemical reaction? |
Definition
The parts of a chemical reaction are the solute and the solvent. |
Term
How is energy exchanged during a chemical reaction? |
Definition
Energy is either recieved by an endothermic reaction or given of by an exothermic reaction. |
Term
What factors affect the rate of reaction? |
Definition
The factors that affect the rate of reaction are temperature change, concentration, and surface area. |
Term
What is an ionic bond?
An ioninc bond is an attraction that holds oppisitly charged ions
close together.
Ion- atoms that are +or - charged because it has gained
or lost and electron.
Electron- a - charged atom. |

Term
What is a covalent bond?
A covalent bond is chemical bond is formed
when atoms share electrons. |
Definition
Term
Recongnize the basic characteristics of ionic and covalent bonds.
Ionic bonds- high melting points, conducts electricity, and dissapears easily in water.
Covalent bonds- do not conduct electricity, low melting point, and low boiling point. |
